Help Cambridge HEART move to its new home

As you may have already heard, the Democracy Center will be closing down on July 1, 2024 and all resident organizations, including Cambridge HEART, have been asked to vacate by then.

The Democracy Center has been home to Cambridge HEART since HEART began its operations in 2022. All nine full time staff actively use the space on a daily basis for meetings, responding to community members, and for mutual aid and advocacy events. The organization also just finished outfitting an office as a call center that will support a crisis response warm line for community members.

Our team was only informed of this decision on April 2, 2024.

We are grateful to our community who immediately began helping us search for a new home.

We found a beautiful space with a values aligned landlord who is willing to highly subsidize the rent and will be able to move before July 1.

The rent at our new location will be $4,400 more than we budgeted for the year. We will also be responsibility for electricity costs which are estimated at about $2,600.

We are asking our community to help us cover both of these unexpected costs, which are about $500 per month or $6,000 for the year.

We have also requested support from the owner of the DC, but we do not know if they will provide this support or not.
